Job Title: Clinical Research Registered Nurse
Work Location: Bethesda, MD
Cape Fox subsidiary Eagle Health is accepting resumes for a Clinical Research Nurse to provide services at the Eunice Kennedy Shriver National Institute of Child Health and Human Development in Bethesda, Maryland. NICHD’s mission is to lead research and training to understand human development, improve reproductive health, enhance the lives of children and adolescents, and optimize abilities for all.
Core Duties:
- Attend and participate in patient care conferences
- Perform assessments and collect medical histories and physicals
- Perform collection, maintenance and analysis of data, entering and tracking patient data
- Utilize computer-based systems (e.g. CRIS, CTDB) to receive examination requisitions, retrieve patient information needed for examinations, and record patient data
- Schedule testing and clinic appointments; initiate medical records; make admission room reservations
- Assess participants' physiologic condition upon admission, monitor throughout visit and upon discharge
- Assess, record, and report patient reactions to drugs, and report study drug adverse reactions to investigators
- Assess patients through follow-up by phone, written correspondence, or email
- Perform and assist physicians in performing basic physical examinations (i.e., measurement of vitals), performance battery of physical function, neuropsychological testing, and a standardized interview
- Document care provided per protocol requirements
- Teach patients and families about conditions, treatments, and medications
- Communicate abnormal results, problems, and concerns to the research staff and inform patients of processes and activities for review and follow-up
- Prepare patients for surgical and/or diagnostic procedures, thoroughly explaining the activities and steps of the procedure and anticipated outcomes
- Schedule new/return patients' appointments and return patients/families phone calls
- Provide participant education regarding the research program or testing procedure and instruct participants on computerized testing
- Prepare medication instructions and detail steps necessary to properly self-administer, monitor, and report results in the case of adverse reactions
- Collaborate with physicians to plan, evaluate, coordinate, and revise programs to deliver the most efficient health care service
- Attend patient rounds, protocol information meetings, participate in patient care conferences, and write and maintain research protocols
- Perform professional nursing duties in the care of patients and serve as the primary nurse for a specific population of patients
- Provide comprehensive nursing care to patients based on physicians' medical care plans and the physical, mental, and emotional needs of the patient
- Manage testing to ensure that projects and protocol responsibilities are completed within timelines given the availability and allocation of resources related to clinical trials
- Plan, implement, evaluate, document care provided per protocol requirements and good clinical practice standards
- Incorporate research protocol requirements into the delivery of care for participants in support of the research efforts
- Coordinate the collection and analysis of research data; ensure that all records are complete
- Develop plans to address patients' needs, initiate appropriate referrals, and provide routine care
- Coordinate health care needs and make referrals to medical specialists
- Support the planning and execution of research experiments in the context of the laboratory's overall research program
- Work with staff on clinical care of subjects enrolled in NICHD OCD research protocols and consultations
- Work with staff on clinical research activities
- Write and maintain research protocols
- Assist Nurse Practitioners, evaluate, and make recommendations to improve patient care, and adhere to good clinical practices
- Review standard nursing procedures and document areas in need of improvement
- Research industry best practices and recommend those for further evaluation
- Review patient/patient family feedback and provide summary reporting for further review
- Perform procedures like IV placement, phlebotomy, and administering medications, and monitor patient progress
- After successful completion of physical exam, administer and document medications per physician's orders
- Insert and maintain peripheral access intravenous (IV) lines and provide care of central venous access lines
- Perform phlebotomy to collect clinical and research blood samples per doctor's orders and protocol requirements
- Perform specialized testing and document care provided per protocol requirements
- Perform appropriate action plan in response to emergency situations and illness of participants, including direct admissions for participants

Salary Grade
Requirements:
- Graduate from a college or university accredited by National League for Nursing Accrediting Commission (NLNAC) or The Commission on Collegiate Nursing Education (CCNE) with a degree in Bachelor of Science in Nursing
- Four (4) years of postgraduate clinical experience as an RN providing direct patient care and ability to draw and process blood samples
- Certified in Basic Life Support (BLS)
- Licensed as an RN in any state with a full, active, and unrestricted license
- Knowledge of worker's compensation guidelines
- Working knowledge of Microsoft Office
- Utilize computer-based systems (e.g. CRIS, CTDB)
- Must have the authorization to work in the United States as defined by the Immigration Reform Act of 1986
