Basic Function and Distinguishing Characteristics Under the direction of an assigned manager, perform a variety of complex technical duties involved in the creation, maintenance, preparation and updating of department maps, and graphics, including drawings and illustrations utilizing AutoCAED; use GIS software to prepare maps and layers.
AutoCAED/GIS Technician I is the first working level in the series. Incumbents prepare maps and graphics using AutoCAED and may use basic features of GIS. This classification is distinguished from AutoCAED/GIS Technician II in that the latter class is the second working level proficient in all aspects of GIS and responsible to convert AutoCAED and other data to GIS layers and to extract information from GIS.
Education and Experience/ Licenses and Other Requirements Any combination equivalent to: graduation from high school supplemented by 18 semester units in civil engineering, AutoCAED/GIS studies or related field and two years of increasingly responsible AutoCAED/GIS experience.
Valid California driver's license.
Supplemental Information A valid driver's license may be required at the time of appointment and employees may also be required to drive their own vehicle and provide proof of liability insurance as per Vehicle Code VC § 160020. Individuals who do not meet this requirement due to a disability will be reviewed on a case-by-case basis.
This position may require pre-employment drug test, physical examination, and fingerprinting for a background investigation.
